Express Entry, planned around your real score.
Express Entry is how most skilled workers become permanent residents. We check which program you qualify for, match your experience to the right occupation code, and build a profile that holds up once you’re invited.
- A new labour market integration factor gives points for Canadian work experience or a qualifying job offer, whichever is higher, up to 150 points.
- At least 12 months of Canadian experience in a high-wage occupation adds 20, 40 or 70 points, depending on how the occupation’s median wage compares with the national average.
- Job offers in high-wage occupations earn 50, 70 or 100 points, and no LMIA is needed. An LMIA no longer adds points.
- IRCC recalculates existing profiles, which can take up to two weeks. Invitation rounds pause until it’s done.

The three programs
You need to qualify for at least one before your CRS score matters.
Skilled work abroad or in Canada
At least one year of continuous skilled work (TEER 0–3) in the last 10 years, CLB 7 in English or French, education, a pass on the selection grid, and proof of funds unless exempt.
Skilled work in Canada
At least one year of authorized skilled work in Canada in the last three years. Self-employment and work done as a full-time student don’t count.
Qualified tradespeople
Two years in an eligible skilled trade in the last five years, language results, and a qualifying job offer or a Canadian certificate of qualification.
Category rounds in 2026
Besides general rounds, IRCC invites candidates in priority categories, often at lower cut-offs.

Common
questions
What CRS score do I need?
There isn’t a fixed number. IRCC sets the type and cut-off of each round, and past cut-offs don’t predict future ones. We look at where your score sits against recent rounds and what would raise it.
Does a job offer earn points?
From November 3, 2026, yes again, if it’s a qualifying offer in an eligible high-wage occupation: 50, 70 or 100 points. No LMIA is needed. Job offers used for Federal Skilled Worker or Skilled Trades eligibility aren’t limited to high-wage jobs.
How long does a profile last?
Up to 12 months. If you’re not invited by then, you can create a new profile if you still qualify.
Can a provincial nomination help?
Yes. A nomination through an Express Entry-linked provincial stream adds 600 points. Each province has its own criteria and limited spots.
What happens after I’m invited?
You submit a complete application with all documents by IRCC’s deadline. Police certificates and proof of funds take time to gather, so we start preparing before the invitation arrives.
